What is Zen?

Zen is a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. Zen is a way of being. It also is a state of mind. Zen involves dropping illusion and seeing things without distortion created by your own thoughts.

Making a Habit or Breaking a Habit?

After watching "My Strange Addiction"  a new show that recently came out I was intrigued to realize that there are people in the world with very bizarre and strange habits.  Some of which are detrimental to their health and viewed as unacceptable to most.  They live with these secrets and some obsess with how they can quit.  As I was watching I thought, "What are my bad or unwanted habits.  Thankfully I couldn't think of any that bizarre, but I believe we all have habits that we would like to break.  Some of them echo my New Year's Resolutions and some are just little nit picky things I would like to change.  Spending money and being sedentary are at the top of that list and working so many hours and leaving the house messy is at the bottom.  Think of the habits you want to break.  What steps would it take to get there?  I have found that beginning with small steps becomes much more successful than trying to tackle the whole job.  Fact: It only takes 4 weeks to make something habit.  Try making one habit or breaking one every 4 weeks and before you know it you will have all your old habits broken!  That in turn made me start thinking, "What habits do I want to make this year?"  I found that they are close cousins of my bad habits.  Getting fit and healthy and saving money is at the top of my list and keeping the house clean and working less is at the bottom.  While they are very nearly the same as the habits I intend to make, they all will take different steps for completing.

Now for completing those steps.  First four weeks:  I have decided that my health is the most important habit at this point, so I am going to start the steps to reach my achievement.  Step one/week one:  Drink at least 8oz. of water per day.  How I intend to do that: Carry a bottle of water with me.  Step two/week two: Add at least three exercise routines each week.  How I intend to do that: Join a gym and find a work out buddy.  Step three/week three: Cut out all carbs during the first 2 weeks of dieting.  Step four/week four: Add a vegetable to every meal.

Setting goals is that easy and once you make them in writing it will be easier to achieve because you will feel like you are being held more accountable.  If I can do it you can too!  So what are you waiting for it's a brand new day??  Make it or break it!
